On the Road with Harry and Bess

ON THE ROAD WITH HARRY AND BESS tells the story of an entertainingly idiosyncratic road trip taken by Harry and Bess Truman in June and July of 1953, a few months after Harry’s presidency ended. Striking out, just the two of them, in Harry’s new Chrysler New Yorker, these two very famous Americans decided they’d try their hand at just being “folks.” The play explores both 1950s America, and Harry and Bess’s special relationship – one based on love, honesty, partnership, and humor.

This reading will be a fundraiser for Arifa and her family, as they escape the Taliban in Afghanistan and seek a new life in North America, where their three little girls can go to school and grow up in freedom.
